Cricket Country Kitchen is a straightforward, full-service American restaurant nestled along Auburn Blvd in Sacramento, serving up hearty, home-style breakfasts and lunches with a clear nod to traditional country cooking. The atmosphere leans toward old-school comfort, with an inviting, lived-in feel highlighted by small nostalgic details like a train running on a track overhead, which adds a playful touch to the dining room's warm, relaxed vibe.

This is the kind of place where locals come for familiar, no-fuss meals that satisfy more than just hunger. The portions are generous, making it a good choice for anyone who appreciates a filling breakfast — think biscuit and gravy combos, large omelets loaded with cheese or veggies, and classics like chicken fried steak served alongside waffles or French toast with plenty of gravy. Coffee here is a steady companion, often coming as a seemingly never-ending cup, which matches the laid-back pace you’ll find during a morning or early afternoon visit.

Service stands out for being genuinely friendly and efficient, with staff who seem to know many of their customers by name, adding to the sense that Cricket Country Kitchen is a neighborhood spot where regulars feel at home. The team effort in the kitchen and on the floor means orders—from picky bacon preferences to complex combinations like chicken fried steak with eggs—come out just right, contributing to a dependable experience.

This restaurant suits those who favor classic American breakfast fare done consistently well, especially families, longtime residents revisiting old favorites, and anyone wanting to settle in for a meal that’s more about comfort than trendy flare. Mid-mornings to early afternoons on weekends or weekday mornings are ideal times to soak up the ambiance while avoiding busier stretches.

It’s worth noting that while many praise the authenticity of the cooking, some dishes like the chicken fried steak might lean heavier on convenience items rather than fully homemade preparations. This reinforces the overall impression that Cricket Country Kitchen is prized more for its welcoming atmosphere and sizable plates than fine dining precision.

In all, Cricket Country Kitchen comes across as a practical spot for classic, filling American breakfasts and lunches where the atmosphere echoes local roots, the coffee flows freely, and the staff’s attentive care helps each guest feel like part of the community.

Love you like biscuits & gravy! This place was my mom’s favorite place & she used to be a regular when i was a teen so it’s been awhile for me. Was in the area & decided to stop in. Now i know why it was her favorite place! The service top notch & soo friendly, breakfast was huge portions, pot of hot coffee, & the ambiance was amazing with even a little train up above on a track. Im a people watcher so it was fun watching all the “regulars” come in & instantly get greeted by name. I’ll definitely be coming back for those biscuits & gravy

Very nice place. Friendly waiters. Very atmospheric place. I really liked the food. Excellent breakfasts. There are so few such good places left. I recommend this place.

This place is the PERFECT hole-in-the-wall breakfast food location. I mean the ambiance, the food, the teamwork amongst the staff...it just all adds up for the most amazing meal you will have. I got an omelet, my dad got Belgium waffle with basted eggs and bacon (the meal he always gets). He orders his bacon such that "if you dropped it, it would break". They nailed his order and mine was scrumptious. Their fruit and pumpkin pancakes were so great that I'd be remiss to not mention them. Pumpkin is their flavor or the month and those pancakes were such soft melt-in-your-mouth ones with just the right amount of pumpkin flavor. That fruit was so ripe and tasty! The staff works together so well it is seamless. The decor is so fun and they decorated for Halloween.

Great place, even better staff! The food is reliably good; the portions are huge; the service is WAY BETTER & FASTER than anywhere I've ever been (and I'm a foodie!). My picky husband really liked the biscuits & gravy. He's ordered it at other restaurants & always thought it was bad. If you're looking for something sweet for breakfast, try the cinnamon bread french toast. All of their french toast uses Texas toast - super thick but light bread. The prices are super reasonable. This place isn't fancy, yet it has very amusing, eclectic decor. There's pictures of their regulars - current & past. They truly appreciate their customers. When you're here, you're family. Our waitress, Aimee, is the epitome of Southern charm & warmth. Everyone who works here is down-home wonderful. Cricket's is a place that you've just got to try. It'll remind you of the past, where servers took pride in their work; strangers are friendly; and the food was always good. Go... just go.

This was my first experience at this Hidden home town restaurant. This service is Outstanding, This place is an old school vibe. Everyone working here is very polite. I'm sorry to say The food was only a 3 star. The chicken fried steak was fake patties. The gravy was not home made. I was slightly disappointed. I can understand the repeat customers because of the down home feeling and the wonderful service. I will be back to experience the dinner they offer.

We haven't been there in ages, so we decided to check it out! I pass by it every day on my work route, and it's always packed! When we arrived around 12:30, the place was packed! At first, we were discouraged and wanted to leave, but we decided to stick around and see what the hype was about. Within 10 minutes, they called our names, and as soon as they seated us, they brought us our drinks and took our order. Our food arrived within 15 minutes! The food was fresh and hot! We ordered biscuits and gravy, and the chicken-fried steak (Mr. Huge, I believe it's called on the menu). The Buttermilk Biscuits were flaky and soft, and the chicken-fried steak was cooked to perfection! The server was super friendly and awesome! All in all, we had a great time and will definitely be coming back! #foodie #brunch #delicious #greatservice

This is a true no-frills, hole-in-the-wall gem. Don't come for the ambiance—the decor is dated and it's a bit dark—but absolutely come for the food. It's consistently clean, the staff is always pleasant, and the service is good. The real reason I'm a regular is the unbeatable combo of high-quality food and reasonable prices, especially compared to other places in the area. I always get the Cricket Breakfast and have never been disappointed."
